Used laptops memory upgrade guide

Upgrading a used laptops memory is actually very easy. Laptop memory slots are almost always easy to access and the whole process should only take a few minutes.

The first step is to locate where your laptops memory slots are. Every laptop I’ve ever seen, has the hard drive accessible from the bottom, so unplug and flip your laptop over. Just as a precaution take your laptops battery out during the memory slots upgrade procedure.

Somewhere on the bottom of you laptop there should a cover secured by a screw. In the picture below you can see that the memory cover is very easy to find in the middle of the underside of the laptop.

The cover for the memory slots is circled in red.

In most cases you simply have to remove a single screw (keep track of the screw) and remove the metal cover. You then see two memory slots underneath. Most laptops are sold with 1 spare memory slot so you’ll have a place to upgrade.

Here you can see the memory slots. The gold metal edge of the memory fits into the slot and there is a notch to prevent you from inserting it the wrong way.

To insert the memory simply match up the notch and slide the memory in about a 30-40 degree angle. Once the memory is all the way in, push down on it gently and it should click into place so it’s lying flat.

Once the memory is in you can simply replace the cover and boot the laptop up. Windows will automatically use the additional memory so there’s nothing more to do.
